About
I'm Sydney Fizzard, an independent reporter based in Calgary.
A truly independent media and a free press are foundational to democracy, truth and transparency, and undermining them would be perilous to us all. I have my opinions and I share them freely, but in my reporting, I strive to provide an unadulterated presentation of the people I interview and their perspectives. They deserve the same respect I would ask for if the tables were turned.
Unlike much of Canada's media, my reporting has never been funded by any government or political organization. I'd rather ask for your support than take it out of your taxes. I'd give up access and a payout to stay honest, and I rely on support that's freely given.
To you, my hopeful future supporter: I hope you get real value from my honest, straightforward reporting.

Privacy Policy — TheFizz.ca
Last updated: October 27, 2026
TheFizz.ca is run by Sydney Fizzard, an independent journalist in Calgary, Alberta. This privacy policy explains what personal information I collect through this website, why I collect it, and what I do with it.
What I collect
- When you donate: your name, your email address and your billing details. Stripe handles payment. I never see or store your card number.
- When you send an Interac e-Transfer: your name, your email address or phone number, and any message you include, as your bank passes them on.
- When you email me: your email address and whatever you choose to write.
- When you browse: I don't use advertising or tracking cookies, analytics trackers, or social media tracking scripts. The share and follow buttons are plain links, so nothing is sent to a social network unless you click one.
Why I collect it
I use your information only to process your contribution, send payment receipts, answer your messages, and meet my legal and accounting obligations.
Who I share it with
I don't sell, rent or trade your information. I share it only with:
- Stripe, which processes payments. Stripe may store and process your information outside Canada, including in the United States, where the authorities there may be able to access it under local law. See Stripe's privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy.
- Your bank and mine, for Interac e-Transfers.
- Anyone the law requires me to share it with.
I will never publish your name or identify you as a supporter without your permission.
Donating does not sign you up for a mailing list. I send receipts, a thank-you, and updates only if you ask for them. If I ever start a newsletter, I'll ask you separately.
How long I keep it
I keep payment and contribution records for as long as tax and accounting law requires (generally six years) and then delete them. I delete other messages when they're no longer needed.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, have it corrected, or withdraw your consent. To do any of these, contact [email protected]. If you're not satisfied with my answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
Source protection
Information that sources share with me for my journalism is handled separately from supporter data and is never mixed with it.
